The Effect of Chlorination Effluent Recycle on Toxicity and Organically Bound Chlorine in Softwood Kraft Pulp Bleaching
نویسندگان
چکیده
Factorial experiments were conducted to investigate the effect of chlorination filtrate recycle on toxicity and organically bound chlorine in the first two stages of softwood kraftpulp bleaching. The effects of the mode of chemical addition, the substitution of chlorine dioxide, and the kappa factor were also studied. A continuous laboratory-scale (6.0 o.d.g/min) chlorination apparatus was designed to rapidly produce suficient efluent for trout bioassays. An increase in recycle equivalent to 18 m3/adt caused the first-stage toxic emission factor to decrease by 314 TU.m3/adt. Thus, toxicity data from chlorination efluents that are produced in the laboratory without recycle are not representative of the industrial process. A regression equation was formulated for the organically bound chlorine (AOX) results, which did not depend on recycle.

A new thermo-alkali-tolerant crude xylanase from Coprinellus disseminatus decreased kappa number by 34.38% and improved brightness and viscosity by 1.6 and 6.47% respectively after XE1-stage during prebleaching of Anthocephalus cadamba kraft-AQ pulp. At 2.4% chlorine demand, crude xylanase in a XECEHH (X= enzymatic prebleaching stage, E= extraction stage, C= chlorination stage, H= hypochlorite ...

Effluent loads from different traditional and emerging ECF bleaching sequences were investigated. Oxygen delignified Eucalyptus camaldulensis and Acacia mangium kraft pulps having similar kappa number, ca 12.0 were used in this study. Different ECF bleaching sequences were compared with reference sequence, D0EopD1 in terms of effluent load, such as AOX, COD and TOC. Depending on the nature of s...

Pulp and paper effluents are considered as serious environmental hazards and their treatment, because of multiplicity of impurities and complexity of their chemical structures, is one of the most difficult and inconvenient industrial processes.
